1- Public Relations
Don’t be scared, public relations can easily be bootstrapped, and can be highly efficient. You certainly don’t have to hire an expensive PR agency to generate good PR.

An exclusive look inside CEO Ben Silbermann’s social media sensation. FORTUNE — Ben Silbermann can’t stop staring at the refrigerators. The Pinterest co-founder and CEO and I are standing in the break room of his company’s garage-size Palo Alto office. He’s just flown back from Austin’s SXSW interactive festival, and a redesign of his website is two days away. It’s all a little overwhelming. But at this moment his full attention is focused on three glowing refrigerators. Sometime during his brief absence, a service has delivered them fully stocked and branded with the company logo. They’re wedged into the tiny backroom behind the foosball table that three employees — roughly 15% of his workforce — are using for a conference. “I’ve been gone for one day, and it’s so upscale,” he says. “We used to just run to Costco all the time.” [continua su Fortune tech]

Scrapping the Website: The Virtue of about.me
Up until recently (i.e. last night), I had used my own website (i.e. alexkantrowitz.com) as the jumping off point for my online presence. Besides for those looking for me for specific purposes such as professional (LinkedIn) or social (Facebook), I thought it was important to have a place that organizes everything about me online, to help those doing a little research (for whatever reason).
That said, I developed my own site complete with a brief description (Alex Kantrowitz is…), a listing of all my published work, and a contact section. The site worked well and did what it was intended to do, but things fell out of line when I started using Tumblr.
I had originally blogged on my website and, when I moved to Tumblr, this space felt like the place where I should keep my writing archive (after all, I write here). Thus, I established an In Print section here, and kept the duplicate on my site. But this all started to feel redundant and I knew I needed to make a change.
And so, from this point on, I will continue to blog from this Tumblr site, I will store my writings here, but I will also scrap the bulky piece of online clutter that my website used to be, and move the ‘home page’ functionality to a new service called about.me. I could go on for many more paragraphs about the service (and maybe will in a future post), but encourage you to check it out for yourself. My page can be found at about.me/alexkantrowitz. As such, the alexkantrowitz.com domain name heads to the bench (for now, I guess).

Here is a great infographic from queaar.com showing the growth of QR codes. They seem to be a pretty hot topic right now but, until QR code reader apps are added as standard with every mobile, there is still a huge debate around if they accessible enough?
Here are a few highlights from this infographic:
QR code uptake has increased 4589% from early 2010 to early 2011
56% of QR codes appear on product packaging
The majority of users expect to receive a coupon or deal from scanning a QR code
11 out of 50 Fortune companies are incorporating QR codes into their marketing strategy
68% of QR codes are scanned via an iPhone
